Self-Care – the Foundation of Relationships
Do you ever have the feeling like you are going, going, going – having to do a million things at work and in your personal life? I can imagine that sometimes you wish there were more hours in the day to get everything done!
Well sometimes we can get so caught up in giving to others, taking care of others and doing the million things we have to do that we forget to take care of ourselves.
At times we take it so far that we get sick only to have a little bit of a break. I know being sick is not really a break, however, it will force you to slow down.
So how about taking a break before you get sick or are forced to slow down. You might think that it’s counter-intuitive to take a break when you have so many things to do. However, taking a break is going to help you be more productive in the long run.
I’m participating in a virtual Women’s Success Retreat all day tomorrow. I’m looking forward to turning off the computer and the phone for an entire day and focus on myself. I’ll spend time meditating, doing yoga, engaging in some creative artwork, and pampering myself in the comfort of my own home. Retreats are wonderful ways to nurture yourself and if you can take a half a day or an entire day even better.
Here are some other ways that you can nurture yourself:
- Take a nice hot bath. Turn down the ringer on your phone, turn on some nice music, light a candle and soak in the tub.
- Take a nap in the middle of the day. Even a 5 min. power nap can have you feel refreshed and rejuvenated
- Go out into nature and enjoy a walk on the beach, in the woods or in your local park
- If you can’t go out into nature – take a 5 min break in the morning and afternoon and imagine being out in nature on your favorite beach, in the forest, park or in the mountains.
- Spend an afternoon in bed with your favorite book and music
- Treat yourself to a massage
- Turn off the TV for one evening and cook yourself a delicious meal or take yourself out for dinner
To be honest it doesn’t matter how you nurture yourself, important is that you feel good; you get a chance to rest and rejuvenate. You’ll notice a huge difference when you go back into the “word” to take care of all the things you have to do. You’ll notice that you have more energy if you take care of yourself on a regular basis and allow yourself to take breaks.
I’d love to hear how you are taking care of yourself and invite you to share about your own mini retreats and ways you rejuvenate.
